I’m using a lot of big brain energy for school right now, figuring out my thesis project, writing to organisations trying to convince them to work with me (despite my baby swedish skills), trying to form coherent thoughts in semi-academic writing (not fully academic because this is an art school after all!) and I am finding it very hard to write, especially about topics that are so important to me.
It feels like everything I have been trying to say has been said/ is so obvious because yes of course children’s rights are important! Of course, they should be included in civic discourse! Of course, we should be designing with our youngest citizens in mind! Of course of course of course! But it is obvious only because I am in it, surrounded by people like you reading this who also care about it. But I cannot take for granted that these are important/obvious to others, and trying to remind myself of that and not diminish the work we are trying to do.
I will try again, but for tonight (here in Sweden) I leave you with a little imprint from the summer—
This kid was 9, the youngest in the workshop (the other participants were 10-14) and I was so very moved. It was obvious he had a good time, but he felt compelled to make this little declaration at the end.
I guess some obvious things still need to be said (_:
A big thank you also to you, for being here. Have a cozy October!
